Case Study

Workwear Solutions & Dublin Bus

Workwear Solutions International was contracted by Dublin Bus in June 2024 to provide full technical consultancy services for their operational uniform tender. Workwear Solutions completed an initial independent technical product assessment with was then combined with wearer feedback, prior to the redevelopment of specifications.

During the initial product assessment and based on wearer feedback, the waterproof jacket and driver shorts were identified as requiring re-design to ensure the items were fit for purpose, and following presentation of Workwear Solutions new designs, these were approved by the operational teams, and updated specifications were then developed and released with the tender.

New, updated versions of the specifications were developed for all products across wearer groups and brands within Dublin Bus’ offering – adding more detail and technical requirements to improve the overall quality, fit and durability of the uniforms.

Other improvements included the introduction of female fit items such as Driver poloshirts, and recommendations made for rationalisation of similar items worn across different wearer groups, to reduce the stockholding, improve product consistency and better economies of scale.

Following the tender submission, Workwear Solutions completed an independent technical assessment of the submitted tender samples was completed in May 2025. The technical assessment of the tender samples included a physical quality assurance and compliance checks against the specifications, followed by a review of test reports to ensure compliance to the required durability, colour and other performance levels of fabrics.

Workwear Solutions also provided support in developing the specification for the operational requirements of the Tender, and assessment of the qualitative responses, as we have in-depth knowledge of industry best practice for operational delivery of contracts such as that required by Dublin Bus.

During the work with the operational uniform team, Workwear Solutions was asked to support Dublin Bus’ workwear team who had a requirement for flame retardant uniforms which are processed through an industrial laundry contract.

Natalie was able to support this project in particular due to her in-depth knowledge of EN Standards and following a review of the client’s risk assessment, was able to develop specifications to meet the clients needs.

The technical assessment of the workwear tender assessment samples will include physical quality and compliance checks, and a detailed review of existing certificates supplied by Tenderers, and / or individual test reports and technical files to assure the client of the product compliance prior to award, and through to delivery of the first roll out of these items.
